| Most patients can anticipate being seen approximately every four to six weeks for a 30 minute appointment to adjust their braces. If you follow instructions and practice good oral hygiene and nutrition, which will be explained to you at the time of placement of the braces, you should be able to complete the treatment time in the time allocated. Cooperation is the key to success in orthodontics and if you have a cooperative, caring patient who keeps their appointments, the results will be a beautiful, long lasting smile for a lifetime. |

| Once the braces are removed, retainers are placed which are usually worn six months full-time and then after that, just at night. Research has shown that throughout life the teeth wear and the gums and bones slowly receed as you age. The teeth, bone, and gums in your mouth age just like anywhere else in your body and are not exempt from this aging process. Therefore, the teeth will show slight shifts in their position and movement as they wear and the bone/gums age. Dr. Brenkert recommends permanent retention with the retainers worn approximately every two-three nights per week. Dr. Brenkert recommends retainers be worn on a consistent basis so that they will continue to fit and maintain the teeth in their new position. This will allow for a beautiful smile to be maintained throughout life. |
