GENERAL DENTAL CARE
Before the orthodontic appliances are placed, the patient is referred to their general dentist for an examination and check-up so that the supporting structures are healthy before the braces are placed. Also, periodic check-ups every six months for children and every four months for adults will be needed to maintain your gums and tooth structure during the orthodontic treatment. Dr. Brenkert does not provide general dental care and therefore, the patient will need to keep their regular dental check-up appointments with their general dentist in a timely manner throughout orthodontic treatment.

Should there be a need for tooth removal, Dr. Brenkert will make the necessary referral to your general dentist or an oral surgeon. Approximately 80% of orthodontic cases can be treated non-extraction while 20% do require permanent tooth extraction to relieve severe crowding or protrusion problems. Dr. Brenkert endeavors to treat every patient as conservatively as possible in regard to tooth removal and will endeavor to treat you or your children a most conservative modality as possible in reference to extractions.
