| Orthognathic surgery or jaw bone surgery is undertaken in severe cases, usually during adulthood where the jaw bones are so severely out of alignment that orthodontics alone cannot align the teeth into a proper bite relationship. Orthognathic surgery is undertaken in a team approach between the orthodontist and oral surgeon whereby the orthodontic appliances align the teeth in preparation for a surgical positioning of the jaw bones to fit the teeth together properly. The orthodontist, the oral surgeon, and the patient work together as a team for the result of an incredible, beautiful, smile with a balanced facial profile to correct severely malformed jaw bones and teeth. |
